KEY POINTS

 –Intrinsic is for the sake of learning and extrinsic is learning to get a job, keep a job, or get a promotion

Over justification effect– When someone is rewarded for something they want to do, it decreases their intrinsic motivation.

-Insufficient Punishment– When someone is given a light punishment, their intrinsic motivation for the bad behavior decreases.

-Self-efficacy includes our belief about having an effect in our own outcome (learning),

-Giving students choice on their assignments can help with motivation.

-When motivating student’s personal connections are key

-MUSICSM is an acronym that can be used to remember the five key principles of the model that relate to the words

eMpowerment,

Usefulness,

Success,

Interest,

Caring. The principles are listed below

– Guest speakers are great to increase the energy in the classroom

– You must be organized to keep your motivation strong.

The SMART model is a great tool to set goals:

S – Specific (or Significant).

M – Measurable (or Meaningful).

A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented).

R – Relevant (or Rewarding).

T – Time-bound (or Trackable).
